On Ascension Sunday, we celebrate Christ’s ascension into heaven and the promise that God’s power and presence continue to work through the Church in the world. It is a day of hope and calling, reminding us that Christ reigns and sends us forth in faithful witness and service.

This year, Ascension Sunday also coincides with Miracle Sunday, a special United Methodist global initiative. On May 17, 2026, churches around the world will receive a special offering with a bold goal: to permanently endow 500 annual theological scholarships for pastors in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines. The need is urgent—while more than 71% of U.S. clergy hold theology degrees, fewer than 5% of clergy outside the United States have access to formal theological education.
